'Pelican over Coongie Lake, Lake Eyre Basin, South Australia' by Erika calder
Oil on Belgian linen, framed 55 X 45 cms
Sometimes there are dozens of pelicans flying slowly in wide circles catching thermals above the lakes against an expanse of blue. They nest in their hundreds on sand spits out in the water, safely away from prowling dingoes and feral cats (the latter being large and numerous in the desert regions).
