Pen and ink on paper, with gold leaf
I love the brilliant colours of the Tasmanian Azure Kingfisher and with it’s powerful beak it has a powerful yet quiet presence. It is becoming increasingly rare due to ongoing clearing of stream side vegetation throughout the state. It’s luscious blue and orange feathers are incredibly vibrant and are a strong contrast to the soft olive grey tones of it’s habitat.
I have painted the background habitat of this artwork in tones of gold and silver to signify how valuable the stream side vegetation is and how the survival of the Azure Kingfisher depends upon keeping these habitats healthy.
