Tasmanian Fossilised Tree Fern
165 million years ago, a Jurassic forest at Lune River in Southern Tasmania was knocked down by a volcanic blast, was covered by ash, then overlain by a kilometer thick basalt flow.
The plants were replaced by silica, preserving their internal structure perfectly.
These fossilised ferns are very rare and rate as some of the worlds most beautiful fossils.
